Lifesteps is excited to announce our 100th Anniversary and invite you to celebrate this important milestone with us. Lifesteps, originally known in 1923 as Society for Crippled Children then as Easter Seals, has served hundreds of thousands of individuals and families with life-changing needs for a century.

Our Beginnings…

Proud and humbled to celebrate 100 years of service to Western Pennsylvania, Lifesteps is honoring our history while focusing on our future. Lifesteps’ longevity to serve individuals and families of all ages and abilities for the past century is linked to leadership, compassion, and commitment to serve others.

In 1923, Butler Rotarians formed a Crippled Children’s Committee and offered “Service Above Self” by helping local children afflicted with polio. The services were supported by Rotary members and then eventually formally organized as the Butler County Crippled Children’s Society.  By 1954 the Agency was offering eight programs and services. In 1980, the Agency changed its name to Easter Seal Society of Butler County. Formally an affiliate of the National Easter Seal Society, Lifesteps became an independent agency in 1994 to ensure the Agency’s focus and resources remained at the local community level. The Organization has since continued growing and expanding to offer over forty programs and services throughout western Pennsylvania.

In 2023, Lifesteps and its subsidiaries, accessAbilities and All Abilities, serves on average 7,500 individuals by the over 800 dedicated and caring staff with 67 locations. Lifesteps attributes the 100 years of providing quality programs and service due to caring, committed, and compassionate staff who provide exceptional support to those we serve.
